Get Rid of Your Pennies for a Good Cause

Between February 4 and February 9 drop off your pennies at any RBC branch across Canada to support clean water programs worldwide.

Yesterday, we said goodbye to the penny. But with 6 billion currently in circulation, it might be a while before they’re ancient history. That is, unless you participate in Free The Children’s penny drop-off week.

Partnering with RBC, Free The Children is banking on the penny’s retirement for their We Create Change penny drop-off initiative. Proceeds of We Create Change go toward Free The Children’s clean water programs worldwide.

How can you participate?
Between Monday, February 4 and Saturday, February 9 drop off your pennies—any amount in any container—at any RBC branch across the Canada. Don’t have any pennies kicking around? Donate $25 to the foundation and give someone clean water for life.

Where does the money go?
The pennies collected during We Create Change penny drive go toward Free The Children’s clean water programs, which include setting up hand-pump systems, boreholes, wells, and water-catchment systems; piping clean water into schools and communities; clean water education and sanitation; and hand washing stations and latrines for schools.

Since the creation of Free The Children’s clean water initiatives, they report that 1 million people have been provided with improved access to clean water, health care, and sanitation. And for just pennies, you can help grow that number.

About Free The Children
